Absolutely! Biotech United gives you full control over the matching process, allowing you to tailor the weight of specific parameters based on your hiring priorities. Whether you're looking for candidates with specialized skills, expertise in certain instruments or software, or those located in a specific region, you can prioritize what matters most to your role.
For example, if proximity to your office is a critical factor, you can assign more weight to location during the matching process. Similarly, if you're hiring for a highly technical role, you can emphasize skills, certifications, or hands-on experience with specific equipment or software.
Our intelligent AI-driven system ensures that your preferences shape the recommendations you receive. This flexibility empowers you to focus on what’s truly essential while maintaining a streamlined hiring experience. Fine-tuning the parameters not only saves you time but also ensures that the talent you connect with aligns perfectly with your unique needs.
-
Connecting with and initial talent screening (including chat and video calls) on Biotech United is always free. However, you have the option to offer paid interviews for certain candidates of your choice. Paid interviews are not a requirement and entirely at your discretion. You can also set the rate based on the scope of the interview process.
We recommend offering paid interviews for top-tier talent or when your interview process demands a significant time commitment. For example, if a candidate already works full-time and needs to take a day off to meet with your team, offering compensation shows respect for their time and effort. Paid interviews are also highly encouraged for sessions requiring detailed presentations, data showcases, or an all-day commitment. This approach not only attracts high-caliber professionals but also sets your company apart as an employer that values and respects the contributions of its potential hires.

The Extended Interview service is a game-changer for employers seeking deeper insights into a candidate’s capabilities before making a hiring decision. Think of it as a hybrid between a freelance project and an evaluation period. Candidates complete real-world tasks over multiple days, giving you the chance to see their skills in action and evaluate how they integrate with your team. This service isn’t just about skill assessment—it’s also an opportunity for you to evaluate the candidate’s culture and personality fit in your working environment to ensure a perfect fit.
You set the scope of the tasks, the timeline, and the compensation for the extended interview, ensuring flexibility and transparency. It’s ideal for roles requiring high-level expertise or collaboration, as it allows you to make hiring decisions with confidence while giving candidates a glimpse of what it’s like to work with your team.

Understanding the distinction between independent contractors and employees is essential for ensuring compliance with labor laws. Workers are typically classified as employees if the company controls how, when, and where they perform their work. Employees are entitled to benefits such as minimum wage, overtime, and workers' compensation, and they receive a W-2 for tax purposes. Independent contractors, on the other hand, operate with significant autonomy, setting their own schedules and determining how to complete their work. They are responsible for their own taxes and receive a 1099.
At Biotech United, we simplify compliance by acting as the employer of record for temporary positions, ensuring payroll, benefits, and workers' compensation are managed appropriately. Here's how each type of work is structured on our platform:
· Temporary Position: Biotech United acts as the employer of record, managing all payroll, benefits, and workers' compensation for temporary contract roles. The talent works for your company for a defined period, completing tasks under your direction. Workers in this category are considered employees for the duration of their contract and receive a W-2 for tax purposes.
· Freelancing: Freelancers are independent contractors who work on short-term projects or assignments for various clients. They set their own rates and schedules, and your company pays them based on project deliverables or hourly work. Freelancers are not employees and receive a 1099 for tax purposes.
· Consulting: Consultants are also independent contractors but typically focus on providing strategic advice or expertise over a longer-term engagement. Like freelancers, they set their rates and schedules and receive a 1099. Consultants bring specialized knowledge to tackle complex challenges or guide strategic decisions for your company.
By partnering with Biotech United, you ensure compliance with labor laws regardless of the type of engagement, giving you peace of mind while focusing on hiring the best talent for your needs.

No, it is not a legal requirement for employers to offer benefits to freelancers or consultants. Freelancers and consultants on Biotech United are independent contractors, and as such, they manage their own rates, schedules, and taxes. Biotech United does not handle benefits for freelancers or consultants.
However, for temporary positions, we handle payroll, benefits, workers' compensation, and W-2 issuance through third-party services, ensuring that temporary workers are provided with the necessary benefits and protections.

At Biotech United, we prioritize security and transparency to ensure that you’re connecting with qualified and trustworthy talent. We go above and beyond to verify candidate identities and maintain the integrity of our platform:
· Identity Verification: All candidates are required to create a Stripe account, where their identity is securely verified through a trusted third-party service. This process ensures that each talent profile is genuine and reliable, giving you confidence when reviewing candidates.
· Background Checks: For temporary positions, we conduct thorough background checks to confirm the credentials and qualifications of the candidate, adding an extra layer of trust. These checks include criminal history, employment history, and education verification.
· FTE Verification: For full-time employees (FTEs), Biotech United leaves the background check process in your hands. We recommend performing your own background verification and screening during the onboarding process to ensure the candidate is a perfect fit for your team.
· Ongoing Monitoring: Our platform employs advanced fraud detection tools and algorithms that continually monitor for suspicious or fraudulent activity. We take immediate action to remove any profiles that do not meet our rigorous standards.
· Quality Assurance: We maintain a strict vetting process for all talent across various service types—freelancers, consultants, and contractors. This ensures that every professional you connect with on Biotech United has been thoroughly vetted and meets the highest standards of expertise.
We are committed to providing you with peace of mind, knowing that you’re engaging with qualified, verified talent who can help drive your company’s success. Our robust verification and monitoring processes ensure that your hiring experience remains secure, smooth, and trustworthy.

Additionally, chats, video calls, and any communication conducted on our platform are encrypted to maintain privacy and security. However, to further protect sensitive information, we strongly recommend that you avoid sharing proprietary details on the platform itself. We also encourage you to have talent sign your company’s specific NDAs, particularly when dealing with highly sensitive projects.
