We are currently seeking a Field Service Technician for a contract opportunity in Detroit, MI. This hybrid position combines on-site service at client healthcare facilities and laboratories with remote work focused on documentation, technical support, and client communication.

The Field Service Technician will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory systems, equipment, hardware, software, and networked devices. The role is ideal for a technically skilled professional who enjoys working directly with customers and solving technical problems in clinical, laboratory, healthcare, or other regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, and maintain laboratory systems and related hardware.

  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory and technical equipment.

  • Respond to service requests and diagnose equipment, software, and network-related issues.

  • Coordinate repairs, replacements, and corrective actions while minimizing downtime for laboratory personnel.

  • Maintain accurate service records, logs, and documentation.

  • Prepare clear and professional service reports.

  • Train users on proper system operation and basic troubleshooting procedures.

  • Communicate service status, technical findings, and resolutions to clients and internal teams.

  • Collaborate with engineering, technical support, healthcare, and laboratory personnel.

  • Follow applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

  • Perform occasional travel to client locations and laboratories throughout the Detroit area.

Qualifications

  • Technical proficiency in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware, software, and networked devices in clinical, laboratory, healthcare, or similar environments.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues and implement timely solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to create accurate technical documentation and service reports.

  • Ability to explain equipment operation and basic troubleshooting procedures to end users.

  • Ability to work independently in the field while managing schedules and service priorities.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with healthcare technology, laboratory equipment, medical devices, or regulated environments is highly beneficial.

  • Knowledge of applicable safety and compliance standards is a plus.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Technical certification or associate degree in electronics, biomedical technology, information technology, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel within the Detroit area.

  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment, including on-site client visits and remote work involving documentation, technical support, diagnostics, and virtual client communication.

Compensation

$125–$150 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

This is a hybrid contract position based in Detroit, Michigan, involving on-site service at client healthcare facilities, laboratories, and other customer locations, along with remote work for documentation, technical support, diagnostics, and client communication.
